Genres

Genres are essential to all human interaction. They direct how we behave in different situations and how we interpret the verbal and non-verbal actions of others. On the other hand, we are constantly modifying these genres through our own actions. We live our lives both surrounded and permeated by genres.

In addition to information about genres, we need to be aware of them: What genres are there? How do you identify them? Which genre should be used in a particular situation and how? Which are the linguistic (and other) options available within a particular genre?

The Institute has published several works on Finnish texts and genres.
